We accept applications from charities registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, or those that are formally exempt. Organisations based in Israel must apply through a UK-registered charity able to receive and distribute funds on their behalf. We prioritise small and medium-sized charities with an annual income under £3 million.
Please note that we are currently only accepting applications from charities that have received a grant from The Sobell Foundation within the past five years. Multi-year grants that commenced more than five years ago (i.e. before 2020) are not considered a qualifying recent grant, even if an instalment has been paid within the last five years. Charities that have not previously received funding are not eligible to apply at this time.
We make grants towards both core costs and specific projects, and occasionally for capital projects. Our areas of interest are:

We typically make small to medium-sized grants, occasionally across two or three years.
We are unable to support:
If your project has a fixed start date, please submit your application at least six months in advance.
The Trustees meet quarterly to review applications for larger grants. Applications for smaller grants are reviewed across the year.
If your charity has received a grant, please wait one year from payment of the final instalment before reapplying. Unsuccessful applicants should also wait one year before submitting a new application. Before you submit a new application, please ensure you have submitted your evaluation (downloadable templates can be found on our Grant Evaluations page).
